In some ways you have to feel sorry for poor SOBs that do food delivery. They are taken advantage of on all sides (restaurants, customers, thieves and eejits), but keep on keeping on.
You'd be surprised just how GD lazy New Yorkers have become; freaking ordering *ONE* GD slice of cake or pizza had having it delivered. Worse food comes from some place say in EV or even mid-town, but delivery is out in Queens, way up on UES, UWS or above.. Yet those same lazy a$$ed slobs don't tip for that one slice of pie, and will complain loudly if it isn't delivered on time, is cold, etc...
These guys should just go on strike, maybe during worst winter weather, force some of these lazy eejits to go and get their own *one* Insomnia cookie, slice of cake or whatever.
Not to mention these guys are preyed upon by bandits for their bikes, money and anything else of value. Over half of bike delivery persons have their rides stolen each year, and NYPD doesn't really seem bothered. This despite fact most or all bikes have GPS which means in theory quick call to LE should help track.
Agreed. During the darkest days of 2020 when I got laid off and there was NO extended UE I had to do Uber food deliveries on foot b/c I think bike riding on city streets is a death wish. The situation sucked. Rude customers and lurking thieves everywhere. A lot of the food deliverymen group together by ethnicity - Mexicans with Mexicans, Senegalese with Senegalese, etc. - for protection. But once you're on the route by yourself everyone is a lone wolf.
