As far as nightlife, it's business as usual. It's just as packed (if not more so) then it was in 2019-early 2020, with the only difference being you need to show proof of vaccination before entering. There have been a lot of new bars/clubs opening up this year as well, so clearly people are bullish on the prospects of nightlife in Manhattan and Brooklyn.

The biggest noticeable difference between now and the before times is the crowds during rush hour on the subway. Before, it was always jam packed on the trains in the morning and evening. Now, it's just somewhat crowded.

Depends on the neighborhood you’re in and at what time of day. Manhattan between 23rd Street and, say Canal Street is pretty much business as usual during the day, and at night (especially weekends) is actually more crowded than I remember it pre-pandemic. Same goes for the trendier parts of Brooklyn/Queens (Astoria/Greenpoint/Williamsburg/Bushwick).

The business districts of far Lower Manhattan and Midtown (excluding Hell’s Kitchen and Times Square) are still noticeably less crowded and the office workers that are there seem to be far more Covid-paranoid than the people you’ll find in the West Village to Lower East Side corridor.

Downtown, they're in these streets. I did not miss the crowds.

It's a great time for tourists to visit. Besides mask requirement indoors, smaller crowds everywhere.

Normal was no dancing for many years under Doomsberg and Guliani.

Have those cabaret laws since been overturned or ignored with much success ?

Social life is back to normal for me. Work life is still masks, social distancing, and Covid tests.

Yup....

Everything is back to normal.
Crowded streets, heavy traffic, miserable subways, higher prices and criminals having a field day....................

Timed tickets for museums is vaguely annoying, especially since the libraries are totally open now, but other than that, it's business as usual...

What's the energy like in NYC now vs. pre-covid?

I just checked with an electrical meter and it's only 118 volts.
I know before the plandemic it was a steady 120 volts, so that may signify a serious problem.
