According to the article, the Trylon Theater Building was styled after the 1939 World Fair and called the "Theater of Tomorrow" at that time and Tower Diner building is a colonial style bank building which its authentic features were preserved by the current owners. A petition by local residents was filed.

Do you think such buildings should be preserved as local history or do you think progress is getting rid of the old to make way for the new?

I'm always going to be for preserving older buildings unless they are decrepit, dangerous and beyond repair. The constant development is an eye sore and a nuisance. Just look at LI City and downtown BKlyn. They are both completely unidentifiable from 10 years ago. Why do these greedy developers need to build on every single plot of land in the city? Enough already.

The Tower Diner exterior is architecturally interesting but the Trylon Theater exterior is an eyesore. Perhaps the interior retains some interesting Art Deco features? I don't know, I'm not of the Jewish faith so I've never been inside. That whole block is pretty run down and has seen better days.

With that said, I'm all for preserving older buildings if there is some historical or architectural significance to them AND they can be restored. I'll wait to see renderings of what the developers want to build there before forming any further opinions.

Tower diner was my first to go diner when I was 16. Been there many time. Was there recently and still love it like it was the first time.
Interior is one of a kind. They always kept it nice and clean inside. Food is standard diner fare.

Queens is plagued by ugly residential buildings, let this one live for gods sake.
