People need to get a damn clue and be more aware of their surroundings when taking the train! First of all put away your headphones and you phones until you get on the train. Even then keep it low and be very aware of your surroundings. Times have changed. You need to be hyper aware of your surroundings. Don't stay close to the edge, don't listen to your headphones, put away your phone and arm yourself. I see dummies all the time on the platform oblivious of their surroundings and I think to myself, some bum can easily push this dope onto the tracks and it's lights out for them.

I was watching people just an hour ago and thats exactly what they were doing.

Anyone living in NYC should have some sense of seeing somone looking for a victim. It may not prevent anything but theres a big difference in spotting somone approaching from a few yards vs inches from your personal space. Self defense is not about winning a fight, but getting away alive and uninjured if possible.

the first rule of carrying a firearm is avoid a confrontation in the first place .

you need to be even a bigger woosie …

first basic tactic we were taught is to take a bunch of singles and put a 5 or ten on top and rubber-band it around a matchbook ..

at a sign of trouble , emphasis how you dont want trouble ….then tell them to go have a party on you and fling that wad of bills as far as you can .

it looks like a giant wad of money . it can flip pretty far .

they may decide to go after the money giving you a chance to flee .

but if not , well it looks good in court that your even tried to buy them off before you defended yourself .

even if you are found innocent it can cost you 50k for starters ..then there is a civil suit which can cost you all you have .

so avoiding a nasty situation any way you can is the first choice

Sounds similar to making a "muggers wallet" with mostly singles, expired retail cards and the like. I have one myself since last year.
