There is a shadier side of Sondheim that people may not want to talk about out of respect for the incredible body of work he produced in his lifetime, so they keep silent instead.

I remember rumors a while ago that Sondheim had an S&M set up in the basement of his East Side townhouse. Needless to say, he flatly denied it.
