“Mayor-elect Eric Adams announced Thursday that David Banks, the founder of a network of all-boys public schools, will lead New York City’s million-pupil public school system when Adams assumes office next month.
Appearing with Banks at the Brooklyn elementary school that the 59-year-old Banks attended, Adams lauded his chosen schools chancellor as “a visionary, leader, innovator, who has spent his career fighting on behalf of students.”
Banks is a former teacher and principal who founded the Eagle Academy network of schools in 2004 to educate young Black and Latino boys who he believed were often poorly served by the educational system.
Banks currently runs the foundation that raises funds for the six Eagle Academy schools, one in each New York City borough and one in Newark, New Jersey.”
I believe Eagle Academy has had good results with higher graduation rates and a high percentage of those graduates going on to 4 year colleges. So, it appears that he has helped to produce good results.

Another good step I think! An educator with actual experience up through the ranks. So he should be more intricately familiar with the inner workings and needs of the system.
More corruption in the works and favors being handed out
Adams is a former retired Captain of the NYPD
David Banks is the brother to Phillip C Banks...who was the Chief of Department (highest ranking uniform member of the NYPD)...WHy does he matter? Because Phillip slipped through the cracks when he suddenly retired after the Eric Garner situation that he was personally involved in
NOW Phillip Banks is the defunct 'Deputy Mayor of Public Safety' for Adams along with his brother David who's the School Chancellor

Taking care of old friends is nothing new.
This guy is for longer school hours, weekends and summers. It will be hilarious watching certain people go bananas over this. What??? More education ??.?.

You need to research the real reason why he stepped down. I can’t believe it hasn’t popped back up In the news cycle.
“ Adams, who won the Democratic primary for mayor earlier this year, is the heavy favorite to take the rein in New York City come 2022.
Banks, once a rising star in the department, suddenly retired in 2014.
It was later reported, he stepped down a day after a judge approved a wiretap for him in connection to hundreds of thousands of dollars in “unexplained” cash deposits into his accounts.
The FBI said Banks’ account transactions were the hallmarks of “money laundering,” according to a sworn affidavit filed in Manhattan federal court.
Federal prosecutors also said he could be named as an unindicted co-conspirator in the case.
The feds never charged Banks with any crimes, and he has adamantly denied any wrongdoing.
He also previously said his resignation had nothing to do with the probe by the city Department of Investigation into the $245,000 rental income from his Queens property that went unreported.”
I know parents whose kids went to Eagle. Nothing but good to say about the Eagle Academy!
I like the after school hours. Goes a long way in keeping kids off of the streets, and is good for parents who can't pick up kids, early!
And let's start improving these elementary and middle schools, which are segregation hell-holes. Gotta start early!
