Why "lunacy"?

This is a great idea. And, in fact, when I was fresh out of school, looking at ads, all ads included a salary.

Apart from everything else, why waste your time, or the employer's time, applying for a job only to find you don't want a salary that low?

That would be ideal. You know exactly what the salary is and whether you would accept it.

I did not even realize that this was such a controversial idea. This is how the Feb Govt pays (starting grade range XXX to YYY).

The applicants justifies their higher starting paying by submitting experience and education.

We have people with Masters education who started at a lower pay rate than employees with some college credits and work experience

I find it refreshing. When I was looking for jobs I selected the jobs and pay range I was looking for and narrowed down my applications that way.

No sense applying for jobs blindly. It is good to know that I could 'negotiate' justify a higher starting salary.

Some people did not even bother selecting the higher salary. They assumed they wouldn't qualify and settled for a pay that was less.

Raise your hand if you like approaching situations (in this case, seeking employment) blindly

Govt posts their salaries, no wonder (just one of the reasons) why municipal jobs became so popular over the past 20 years

The current not posting system is awful. You can get rejected for asking for too much AND you can get rejected for asking for too little. They think either you don't value yourself or you are in trouble at your current position.

But there's a difference between what you or anyone else "likes" and what Americans should accept as government mandates.

There would be no argument on these issues if you'd just admit that you want government to dictate to others the things that are acceptable to you personally.

I view government the opposite way: even if I do "like" a particular policy, I can still acknowledge that government has no business dictating it's adherence upon others.

You are absolutely free to ignore job postings written in a manner that is unacceptable to you. That's how freedom is supposed to work. Not "government please save me from words I don't like."

The govt mandates a whole lot of things actually

We just go along with the ones we tolerate and complain about the ones we don't like

Can't have your cake and eat it too in this country

You always do this.

You know how we got to "the government mandates a whole lot of things?"

People who make excuses for them.

Govt mandates to wear seatbealts, either you wear them or you get tickets

There's plenty more examples, but it is what it is

I only worry about what's under my control
