NYC and many cities around the country have become laboratories for all of this progressive reimagination of the criminal justice system, which is not going to work. When given the green light, criminals and people who are prone to engage in anti-social behavior will do so. It's just human nature. The problems we see now in NYC are not unique to it. Homelessness, mental illness, open air drug abuse are definitely taking a toll on the QOL of life in the City. We as a society need to address these issues in a compassionate yet firm way and need to make some really tough decisions on how to deal with it. We went through this before in the 70's and 80's. The City was a mess back then. Hopefully it doesn't devolve into that again.
I don't believe that Alvin Bragg is a bad guy. I think deep down he believes he is doing the right thing but, based upon what was done in the past and the state of things today, he is simply wrong in his approach.
