In 1979 a girl named Renee Katz was pushed in front of a subway train and it was huge news. She survived but lost a hand. Now the mayor is minimizing this woman’s death unlike how the Renee Katz incident was treated which is still remembered over 40 years later. This woman’s death merits the same if not a stronger reaction as the Renee Katz incident.

Quote:
Her attack highlighted a lack of security on subways, prompting new police patrols of subway cars and platforms and signaled a historic change in subway safety. But that change did not prevent six more people from being pushed in front of trains in the 1990s.

In 1979, NYC had an effective mayor who cared about the city and the residents. Times change. It no longer does.

We also have a populace that consists of a significant proportion of people who say, "you live in a big city, this is normal."

Maybe because they view reactionary behavior as being a step down the social and educational ladder.

The why does not matter to me. Any society that has become blasé towards violent criminal behavior can label me however it wants because I have already labeled it in return: failed, sick, degenerate.

It's been obvious for a while that Asians are victimized by crime at a very disproportionate rate. No, it is not *technically* a hate crime but it is yet another time an Asian person has been victimized.

The conversation about crime in this country always focuses on over-incarceration. But it never focuses on the people who are kept safe by "tough on crime" policies.

Fact: Violent crime rates almost always dropped during the era of 3 Strikes & You're Out, as well as the Broken Windows policy era.

We would not consider releasing violent animals at a zoo, and mankind is an animal, many of which are violent.

I see no distinction between a caged tiger and a caged murderer.

lol. You definitely don't have ME pegged. Maybe others, but not me. I only envy those who aren't stuck living close by, like I unfortunately am.
