Now it is only somber, whether gay or straight.

But it is QUIET.

But for my late husband who wanted Manhattan, do or die, I'd have preferred staying in Jersey City.

But I have a good deal here, so here I'll stay.

Tes, OP, stay for a year and if it's too dull, move on.
KK do you get out much? The bar scene is popping up there. Last weekend I went to 4 bars in one night. All were packed.

It's not bad for uptown but pales compared to downtown.

Bar crawl down 2nd Ave on a summer weekend doesnt get much better. Less congested than downtown and way less trendy/full of **** people. Its not park ave trust me.

You guys still at this?

OP you're looking for an apartment, not a wife. It isn't going to be a life long commitment. If you chose a spot and don't like it after one year, pack up and move to where you want to be, problem solved.

In general east or west side uptown (starting in low 60's) is going to be more quiet than mid-town or down town; that's the point. There are local spots on UES, but if you want something more head down town or where ever you think will find some action.

There's a well known gay bar on 2nd Ave in the low 90th, and others.
I assume you mean the TOOL BOX?

TOOL BOX seems to be gone.AFAIK, there is no longer any gay bar on the UES. BAck in the 1970's the scene was a gay Mecca...no more. Uncle Charlie's East was the best, most popular gay bar/disco in the City.

So like others have said, live a safe quiet life in Yorkville and party hearty in other parts of town.
