A deadly joke on every decent New Yorker. Thugs are laughing at us and at Tessa's family. The animals got off very easy.
Thug family -
Quote:
Weaver, who was brought into court with his hands cuffed behind his back, wearing a burgundy shirt and black tie, thanked his family for standing by him, telling them, “you continue to love me as society hates me.” Several of his relatives were present and one yelled out “I love you bro,” as Weaver was led away after the hearing.
He described Weaver as “a symptom rather than cause of a broken system,” saying the boy was born while his dad was incarcerated and had a “turbulent childhood,” growing up in public housing and homeless shelters.
“All of the role models in his life have been to prison,” Litchman said.
The many commonalities of repeat criminals.
Father in prison.
Bad upbringing.
Public Housing.
Homeless Shelters.
Sounds about right.
And to boot .....one of the family members of Weaver pointing and saying " F**** Y'all " while passing reporters.
I think he's not going to feel too good when he hears them words again after growing up and hopefully becoming a man.
Actually, he got 14 years to life. My understanding is that means life with a possibility of parole, with the first possibility of parole 14 years from now. The young women followers of Charles Manson also got life with parole - and they went to the parole board many times without anyone ever being paroled to my knowledge. So, it appears to me that actually justice has been served for this young woman, and safety slightly improved for the rest of New Yorkers.
“ He was on the lam for more than two weeks before cops nabbed him in the Bronx on Thursday. He was brought in for questioning but didn’t say anything on the advice of his lawyers. Investigators believe he may have stayed underground until his finger healed, according to a source.
“He must not have had a bite mark” on his finger when he was taken in, a source familiar with the case said. “If he did, that would have been enough corroborating evidence to hold him.”
Also I remember this article title. “ How the Central Park 5 Case Looms Over the Tessa Majors Murder”
What a disgrace. To take the life of an 18 year old young lady over her cell phone. Little maggots.
NYS uses indeterminate prison sentences. In this case convicted person got *14 to life* which means earliest he will be eligible for parole is about 12 years (time off for good behaviour, etc...), but that isn't a slam dunk. That's what parole board does, decide who gets sprung "early" or not.
Federal system long ago got rid of parole so a sentence of "15 years" means just that, though there is again possibility for bit shaved off for good behavior or other things.
It goes both ways; some feel eliminating parole gets rid of a whole state bureaucracy (which saves money), and cuts recidivism. OTOH people say without parole those incarcerated have no reason to behave and better themselves (take classes, earn degree, remorse, etc...) and will just do their time as they are.

Sounds like the script from a Spencer Tracey movie or a line from the Officer Krupke song in West Side Story.
Given the severity of the crime, this seems like an unusually light sentence.
