Who remembers when Corona, Elmurst, Flushing, Long Island City etc were legitimately bad/dangerous?

My Grandparents had a home in Corona Queens not far from Shea Stadium. I remember hearing the Beetles when they came there back in the 60's, we could hear them in my Grandparents backyard. It used to be an Italian neighborhood back in the 40's and my grandparents were one of the very first black families to move there. The area did change and go down, again because of the bad apples that tend to move into the area and then they generalize a whole community based off of them. I remember when the World's Fair came.

It is sad and unfortunate that in many cases when you clear the fields of
poor structures and poor people it sets the stage for new construction and new people.
