Hi,

I've just found a very nice place to rent in the UWS in the '100s, right next to Riverside Drive. The area is just perfect for me as it seems very green, quiet and safe during the day. I've read that Riverside Park can get sketchy at night, is that true?

No one should be walking around any park in NYC after dark. Riverside Park, Central Park, etc. Makes no sense. One of the main things you shouldn't do is park your car over there if possible (if you have one). Lots of break-ins.

Situation is no less worse than back in the day.

What do you mean by back in the day?

I do not have a car. I do plan to walk around at night though - I just love it. Maybe not directly IN the park but still in the immediate vicinities.

Is this one of those fake posts? Spam posts? IDK what they are called something with an S post?

I thought everyone knows not to walk in a park alone after dark, just common sense.

I come from far away. In my city I walk in parks after dark all the time (I'm not a woman though). I know next to nothing about NYC parks.

Yes, Riverside park can get sketchy as eff at night (especially late/overnight), but often daytime isn't that much better either.

That being said know people who have lived along Riverside Drive in 90's and 100's for years. It's a nice area and wouldn't let reports of crime or whatever deter you much. Area is certainly better than 1970's through 1980's or good bit of 1990's when gun battles and overall crime was far worse.

Male or female you shouldn't be walking in Riverside Park or even Central Park after dark, especially late/overnight when so few other people are about. Know some who take their dogs out for late night walks in Riverside Park, but only long enough for pooch to do its business.

Overall that area is rather nice mix of things in large part due to Columbia University which brings a diverse population who lend a nice vibe to mix.

Any park after dark should be a no go zone.

Wow - I had read the UWS was possibly the safest area of the entire city but you guys are making me have second thoughts.

Its not a safe place to be. You are asking to get robbed, raped or killed. Order of those vents may differ.
