An elderly man in Park Slope writes nasty letter to parents complaining about noise their children make. All heck breaks loose afterwards as letter is made public and battle lines quickly drawn.

Mr. Cusenza sounds a bit cranky. It's summer and the sounds of happy kids playing is part of it. Man Up and buy a better grade of earplug! Cusenza also chooses to work outside in his garden so it's just TFB that he hears his neighbor's happy kids laughing.

It's kids and it's during the day. Unless they are screaming bloody murder, you gotta let it go. In my neighborhood, parents set up little kiddie pools or bigger above grounds in the backyards for the kids and I hear them daily when working from home. It's really not that big of a deal because it's just normal volume of kids playing. It would be a different story if this was at like 11PM on a weeknight or 1AM+ on the weekend and the parents are blasting music too.

If you don't like it, you gotta move to a quieter area. They exist.

I will be in agreement with the man, just by looking at the parents, they are what I consider to be called "organic", and most probably their kids do make an excessive amount of noise and most probably they do not have not a clue, well, the man is pointing this out to them and making them realize that they are the only family to be making this amount of noise and asking them nicely if they can control it somehow.

They probably are annoying, and I can understand that. All these backyards are very close together, and what one thinks of as pleasant noise sounds, others do not.
No, no one wants to hear someone else's radio, kids screaming etc. I get it.

When living this close to people, one has to administer some sort of common sense, as the sounds do travel in those types of yards.
I'm sure it is annoying. I side with the grumpy old man.
I can tell right away by looking at them that they do look like they would be annoying, LOL.
I guess I am grumpy also.
What is whooping? I have never heard that term. It is most likely something annoying.

Exactly!

Part of having a property with a back yard is for your kids to have a place to play outdoors and make noise.

Long as it isn't going on at some unreasonable hour of night I don't see what the old geezer is so hot about.

Until we were old enough to wander off on our own, my brothers and I lived in our backyard. We loved it because could make all the noise we wanted without being told to keep it down. In fact mom would come outside if things got too quiet.
