In latest effort to show he's dealing with filth in city mayor has announced an all "volunteer" DSNY force will make collections on Monday which is a paid city holiday (Labor Day).
The Tisch woman says it they're actually saving money by not having to pay OT for sanitation to play catch up later in week.
They also collected trash on Labor Day in 2021 but they said the reason was to continue the cleanup from Hurricane Ida. It’s probably a very easy day for DSNY because most people don’t know it’s a collection day and don’t put their trash out. They don’t publicize enough that they were working on a major holiday like Labor Day.
They actually ARE collecting later on today, so it should be out.
They say to put out trash after 4 pm but I’ve never seen them collect on a day they were officially off for a holiday. They used to collect just after midnight the day after Thanksgiving but not in recent years. The announcement says to put it out between 4 pm and midnight so I doubt they will be collecting before midnight tonight.
