I guess people are coming back to work.

Ridership on the Long Island Rail Road surpassed 200,000 for the first time since March 2020, according to the MTA, and Metro-North ridership was a little more than 179,000, beating out the previous COVID-19 pandemic record of 174,900 on June 28.

Subway and bus transit also saw more riders compared to “a comparable day” in 2021, the governor’s statement said.

I don’t believe it.

I remember times after work you couldn’t get a seat and there was barely a place to stand even .

None of that. Even at 5:30 you can find a seat with no issues. It’s great.

It's all suburbanites going to their NYC offices to bring stuff back to their WFH offices. LOL! The MTA can't be trusted when it comes to ridership stats. LOL!

I take the LIRR at least 5 days a week and it's no where near the same capacity pre COVID. There's more people than last year at this time but not before 3/2020.

The lots are empty because nobody is commuting into NYC anymore. The LIRR is terminating direct service to Brooklyn in December so that eliminates commuters going to Brooklyn or downtown Manhattan - unless you want to jump a train to Jamaica and stand there for 12 minutes waiting for the Atlantic Terminal shuttle - overcrowded like the subway because all the people from Brooklyn, Queens and Manhattan found their $5 flat rate tickets are cheaper then the subway and they get free rolling bathrooms to use. Also, thanks to the new Grand Central stop - trains coming and going from Penn Station are running only every hour - yes - during rush hour so if you miss a train - you stand there for an hour waiting for the next one OR you can take your chances at Atlantic Terminal trying for an unscheduled shuttle train that may or may not lead you to a connection in Jamaica heading to your station. Homeless are also panhandling on the trains cos they get their cheap tickets and can just ride around - and all the school kids now take the LIRR instead of the subways or buses so they are all over the seats with their feet and their backpacks and using phones without headphones so you get to listen to their foul music and TV shows in surround sound. So no, the lots are not filling up anymore and I anticipate in December - people who couldn't negotiate to work from home anymore will have quit, retired or relocated to jobs outside the City or formed carpools. The LIRR has killed itself and should just change its name to the Brooklyn-Queens express run.

Why am I not surprised at any of this?? The whole point of the $5 flat rate LIRR ticket was to sully the LIRR, to turn it into the subway. What the MTA didn't figure on in it's inginite stupidy is that normal middle-class commuters would avoid the Atlantic branch, not wanting to pay full-fare just to be panhandled.

5 million jobs across the country and no one to fill the positions
because a family of 4 receiving "welfare" government subsidies
equivalent to $ 80,000 a year in benefits / $ 100,00 a year if living in Mass.

So..........
The Rich have no money problems.
The poor/ lazy have no money problems.
The working stiff.......well.........no longer can
work from home and has to come back into the city
for a paycheck.

Lesson? If you can't beat them join them or move .....................the hell out of Dodge.
