Dear Federal Government: Please Print more money....................The Democratic Answer.
Now do you understand Inflation?
Government created ; money thru taxation ( without representation ) from the hard working American...........
The rich need not worry ......................they can't spend it fast enough.
The poor need not worry .................they just stretch out their hands.
The hard working American ...................money invisibly torn in half................to feed the rich and the poor.
More hard working American turn to poor........... vote Democrats for handout.......
As for those station attendants, if you need anything, anything at all, they are like the MTA gift that just keeps on giving. (completely Ratchet customer service)
In 2026, I expect that $3 ride to skyrocket to $5, just like how it used to cost $8 to come to NY from the Holland and Lincoln Tunnels, now it's about $13. You might as well raise it to $20-$25, if that's the case!!!
Outside of a few large financial firms stuck with massive amounts of expensive Manhattan office space whining about WFH, it's here to stay. And these same large financial firms will be pushing WFH once the leases run out on all that expensive Manhattan office space.
That's a problem for the MTA (and NJT) and for NYC. High-income earners no longer need to drag themselves onto transit/rail for their jobs. Especially the very high income earners from the suburbs who are saving $100s/month by WFH. No more monthly commuter ticket, no more monthly station parking (not free in many towns), no more subway ride to their offices from Penn or GCT.

Less demand allows them to cut service.
Since LIRR and MNR lose about 50% of each ticket- it's a win for MTA to run less trains.
Frequency may go from 1 hour to 90 minutes and the trains still wont be full.
It sucks for those who have to make the commute, but it's a reality of the suburbs post COVID.
The issue here, will be like many.
How many Gov't agencies cut staffing at the start of- or midway through the COVID crisis?
DC Museum staff weren't paid for a while, but Passport verification and issuance sat home and collected a full check. MTA employees in general showed up- but the reality is, how many of them were actually needed.
Nobody thought with financial prudence- and now ... here we are.

The MTA was and is horribly over-staffed. COVID made he problem even worse.
MTA without cost controls is unsustainable. Too many overpaid consultants and workers. Cost overruns and corruption.
Lower usage overall and more farebeating.
Higher security costs to patrol and secure the subways.
