“The 19th Precinct…where grand larcenies…account for 70% of all the crime that occurs…there are 43 individuals, none of whom live in the 19th…who have been arrested in the 19th…438 times in 2022 alone. [and] have been arrested 1,027 times citywide this year”-

Even though we see lots of shocking and wild crimes in the news, the majority of crime in NYC is not perpetrated by our legal citizens. It is the illegal foreigners that commit the most crimes. Mostly silent crimes.
I mean what is the protocol for arresting and charging illegal aliens for crimes in NYC? Nothing is my guess. If cops notice they are illegal immigrants they probably run the other way for the safety of their careers and families they support. Our justice system in NYC is scared stiff of illegal immigrants. Illegals basically have the freedom to do anything they want here. NYC is not going to deport them or send them to our jails.
Rape, murder, theft, lie, cheat, steal - illegals can do as they please without a care in the world.
Violent offenders should not be let go because they can’t afford bail.
If someone stole a banana from a store that’s One thing. Violent offenders need to post bail, if they can’t , they shouldn’t be committing crimes to begin with.
I think it is simply a contributing factor but not the main reason.
I wouldn't say Covid directly.
But indirectly it emptied out the city and created a vacuum where all the whackos just moved in, suddenly finding some sweet real estate they can occupy.
If crime was at tolerable levels before covid, it wasn't due to politicians, but just being in a sort of populated rhythm.
Now that that rhythm has been disrupted all the ugly rises to meet the challenge and politicians suddenly have to take their headphones off and pay attention. But they are woefully not prepared both mentally and politically.
