Looking at a NY racino web-site, basic strategy for blackjack was posted on their web-site so a player would learn the game before playing electronic blackjack. I thought video lottery terminals have pre-determined outcomes, so it wouldn't make a difference if a player used blackjack basic strategy because it wouldn't increase the chances of winning, correct?

What I know from regulations of slot machines in other jurisdiction, which I assume is the same in NY, the machines have to deal a hand based on the probabilities of a real card deck. Each hand is based on a full deck, so counting isn't possible. The basic strategy should be the same. But basic strategy only makes you lose less. Without the ability to count a depleting deck, you can't make blackjack be positive expected value.

I know the racino video poker machines have a sign on them warning that using basic strategy won't affect the outcome, in other words, the winning hands are pre-determined. I thought it was odd for the racino to post basic blackjack strategy on their web-site if the winning hands are pre-determined, and yes, each game is one deck, you can't count the cards.

Once when I was in the racino, I saw a player consistently winning electronic blackjack hands and he was looking around to see if anyone was watching. I was wondering if he was a shill.

The racino announced a player won just under one million on a VLT last month.

Actually no. New York is one of the few states where these machines don't have to be (and aren't) random. The machines in the NY racinos would be illegal in almost every other state.

You'll have much more success and fun at AQUEDUCT playing horses. Those VLTs are for LOSERS. The true NYC sports experience is HORSE RACING.

Really. I didn't know that. I did know they were tied into the state lottery. That's how they got around the old constitutional ban on casino gambling.

I wonder if / how this will change when "real" casinos are allowed.

The real winners are middle aged Italian men in tracksuits and rings on every finger. They make sure that nobody wins too much or too often.

At the racinos? No. Too much heat. You're guys are running underground card rooms and bookie operations.
