New census shows Il another big loser of population from 2021-2022 (when the US population as a whole returned to slow growth.
Texas and Florida are really at the forefront of population gains for entire country.

For one year only, the numbers are below. All loss and gain mostly a reflection of domestic outmigration as birth and deaths for most states cancel out.
NY -180k. Loss 0.9%
Il -104k Loss 0.8%
Ca -114 Loss 0.3%

Fl. +417k. Gain 1.9%
Tx +471k gain. 1.3%

What can be done? Why are the big blue states losing population continuously, and the biggest red states so dominant in gaining people from across US?

Well this is great news !
Less people the better.

Asking why is so silly. The answer is obvious to the normal sane people.

Cost of living. Most people can't afford to live in blue states.

It isn't? HIGH cost of living... HIGH taxes... Quality of life is not increasing... More density... More congestion... Dirty streets esp. in Manhattan... More rats esp. in Manhattan... Any clearer now?

Are those all features of areas with a lot of population or simply local politics? For example, highest cost of living in the US is in very sparsely populated areas of Alaska where watermelon costs over $30 each. Tokyo is a lot more densely populated than Detroit and also a lot cleaner. Quality of life in sparsely populated Appalachia or rural Mississippi is a lot lower than even the Bronx.

At the same time, more densely populated areas offer bigger economies, more jobs, more amenities, more and better services, more opportunities, etc.

There is a slight possibility that data like this is falsified or inaccurate and then presented as if the research is true. My only guess is that the population of NYC has Increased over the past few years by those who snuck into our country or overstayed and fly under the radars. That is on top of the fact that a lot of common sense New Yorkers with money up and left due to the blatantly bad leadership/politics, De Blasio comes to mind but there are a slew of other factors.

The people who snuck in are going to be a tremendously expensive public charge for everyone here legitimately trying to get by.

Immigrants coming in replacing those who have been here are of a lower class and education in general.
Its only natural for people with higher standards to flee to better places.

The largest answer will be as baby boomers retire- they will take their retirements with them to places that are warmer/easier.

They chose NY, IL, CA for the economy.

Now retirees can leave- and those working remotely can leave.

What can be done?

1. Figure out to equalize costs of retirement when one isn't actually working.

Tax pensions prior to distribution. California has managed to do this.
Illinois does not tax pensions, so I guess that only accounts for the NY end of this.
In NY it costs thousands annually on pensions- a reason to flee the state.

2. Just wait.
Citizens come at a cost. That cost is paid by taxes, and those taxes are generated by somewhere.
Texas has long survived off oil profits, and Florida off tourism.
Larger resident populations does not generate more oil or tourism.
The tax must be spread further for each person, or raised.
States will eventually begin to feel a deficit, and react in a way that makes them less idyllic.

3. Also wait.
If avg. Earth temperature is slowly creeping and water levels thusly rising (whether naturally or by mans effect on climate)- IL and rural NY are poised to become better and better places.
