NYPD Commissioner Keechant Sewell on Thursday said the state’s criminal justice reforms have left the department hamstrung to stop a disturbing trend in teen violence — even as the Big Apple grapples with a surge in kids getting wrapped up in gun crime, new data shows.

“As you saw over the last year, we’ve had our numbers increase actually really since 2017 of juveniles either committing a crime or being the victims of crime,” Sewell noted in an exclusive sit-down with The Post.

The state’s 2019 “Raise the Age” statute — which upped the age for a teen to face adult charges to 18, from the previous 16- and 17-year-old threshold — “has really had an impact on the way we are able to deal with juvenile justice,” she said.

She should come on here and talk to some posters who apparently think bail reform and raise the age are not a problem and not leading to more crime. As NYPD Commish what the hell does she know?!!?

Back in the days truant officers looked out for wayward kids.
Those that were quickly rehabilitated were lucky to continue their education.
Those that weren't ended up in CC camp where they became men overnight.

Unfortunately I would suggest the levels of violence right now is like peace time. Things are going to get much worse here, there is probably going to be a ethnicity war in NYC and other cities unlike anything that has ever occurred

The people that snuck in are some bad mofos who come from harder torn up countries and communities completely ravaged by uncontrollable acts of violence. The illegal deli workers or the illegal construction workers are tame as heck right now, making more money than a lot of real New Yorkers do, but the good times will not last

The way illegals are abruptly AVOIDANT of legal citizens should say a TON about them = they do not like us.

It might even be an ethnicity soft war when everything happens so slowly and silently that no one raises a fist, but that does not mean it is not happening

There are some mean mofos in our city and they stick to their own ethnicity. They will fight harder than the macha cupcake and $9 latte crowd

I think right now things are actually the times we will look back and remember, man 2022 was easy street
