Not until you mentioned the name. It is interesting what he did and what he wanted to accomplish and is still accomplishing.

For the OP though, if you want to visit things off the beaten track and experience what New York City is about you don't have to hunt out the projects. Just go to a regular ole' neighborhood and you will see what New Yorkers see everyday. You will run into the projects on your stroll most likely but to be safe, don't go into an area that is dominated by projects. Not that I consider projects bad, but since you are coming from Nebraska, I would think that you will stand out as a tourist and you may run into an issue if someone views you as an easy target. And if you decide to explore the South Bronx or East New York be careful of where you are walking because you can end up in a desolate area.

Just to clarfiy: Queensbridge is the largest development, but it doesn't have the largest concentration of housing projects lumped together in one specific area. Brownsville takes the title. I'll say there's roughly about 7,000 residents that occupy all of Queensbridge. In Brownsville, from ENY Av. north to Livonia Av. south, Rockaway Av. to the west and Junis St. to the east(north to south is about 7 blocks, east to west is about 3 long blocks) there are roughly over(more or less) 13,000 Housing residents lumped into about 6 different developments.
First of all thank you for clearing up how many buildings Queensbridge has as I said I have never been there so I didnt know for sure.

Secondly no one said anything about the largest concentration of housing projects I said its the largest housing project in the U.S period so although we appreciate your desire to show everyone that you know your facts in relation to my statement the information you have provided has no relevance.

The trip isn't primarily to go see the ghetto, did you not read what I wrote? I'm doing lots of other stuff I'm just gonna take part of a day to go look around at some of the stuff. Yeah I might stick out as an out of towner but if I just walk at a normal pace, look straight forward, and not stop to talk to anyone then I'll be fine. And also I am very fast if I have to run from anything which I doubt I will.

Quite true.

And now to our lead story; a tourist from Michigan was ".........." while sight seeing in the Brownsville section of Brooklyn. A witness, who asked for anonymity due to the STOP SNITCHING movement said, he saw the victim sporting a bright hawaii beach shirt...............

It is not clear if Brownsville is a new tourist destination in the city.... Reporting live from Brownsville....
