That’s a great idea. That -15f weather in winter will be a real shocker to them.

It's 34 here right now. Went up to 41 yesterday. 40 miles east of Toronto.

Canada wants immigrants who will contribute to the tax base.

How will they get over the border?

Well if they do migrate to Canada, I guess it would be cheaper for NYC in the long term.

Had to look that one up.

I read further iinto the Post article. They get arrested and then processed at the border. I just wondered because there aren't a lot of spots along the NY-Canada border that one could walk over unnoticed. Or boat over.

OK, well, that is one solution!

Actually the article is kind of funny - funny/sad. Like the migrant family that took the bus up north because the 15 year old daughter saw on Tiktok that it's a good idea. Lol.

Good luck with Canada. They have rules that ensure they only get productive immigrants who have money and will benefit the society NOT benefit FROM society

Wish we had that

Yup. I have been in a relationship with a Canadian for six years. Now he is dying and I want to stay and take care of him, but I can only be a visitor requesting extensions every six months. They do not want retirees to move here and leach off their healthcare system after not having paid into it via taxes. I have to prove I have ties to the States (e.g., that I own my condo in NJ), that I have sufficient income to support myself while I am here, and I also showed them proof that I have health insurance that covers me here and that I am technically still employed in NYC.

They do take in refugees, especially from Ukraine because there has been a big Ukrainian-Canadian community already in Canada for 100 years.

If you are a nurse, doctor, or health care worker in other ways, they want you, because there is a shortage, just like in the USA.

Get on the bus!

Actually, it seems as though the free tickets are to places like Plattsburgh and you have to figure out the rest of the way yourself.
