The white population in Queens has sharply decreased over the last few decades, way more than the city as a whole. Non-Hispanic whites went from being 48% of the population in 1990, to 32% in 2000, to 27% in 2010 to finally just 22% in 2020. Whites are no longer the plurality in Queens and are now only the third racial/ethnic group after Hispanics and Asians. Between 1990 and 2000, the white population declined by more than 200k, followed by 100k between 2000 and 2010, and 70k between 2010 and 2020. For comparison, the Bronx was 22% white in 1990 and it’s now just 8%. Do you think Queens will follow the same pattern or will it pull a Brooklyn? Nowadays imo, aside from transplants and some OLD school whites in places like Astoria, Ridgewood/Maspeth and Forest Hills, you barely see any white people.

Who care what the ethnicity of the people are? People are people! As long as people moving into Queens will bring peace and joy into the neighborhood, then that's all that matters!

New comers inability or lack of desire to assimilate while maintaining their third world antics is what drives people of all color away. When you don’t like something you either change what you don’t like or move away in a polite manner.
And that’s what’s happening.

The world is changing, and NYC is included.

People holding onto the notion that "this race" would thrive better than "that race," or "this race" should not live here amongst "that race," etc, is hateful rhetoric that is divisive.

Good rule of thumb that folks should learn as kids--
Be a kind person and a good neighbor. Mind your own friends & family and your own business, and you be the best human being you can be. Don't be prejudiced and judgemental, and a busy body in other's affairs.

If everyone lived according to these simple rules, we would be happy and productive.

Brooklyn isn't that much different to be honest. Most of the gains in Whites in Brooklyn are in transplant Brooklyn where they're replacing Blacks and those folks are here for a good time, not a long time lmao.

NYC is a transient city. Unless you make millions and even then you got a house in Greenwich or westchester.

There are those who can gtfo and those who can’t and then there are those who think this is the best city in the world.

You have to add the white + asian percentages to get an idea of how decent a place usually is. As long as that total is over or at least near 50% you should be o.k. By the 2030 census the white population of Queens will dip below 10% but the growing Asian population in Queens are law-abiding people.

Most of the formerly White areas of Queens back in the day turned because of White flight. I live in Northeast Queens, but Southeast Queens used to be just as White as Northeast Queens back in the day. There were fierce racial tensions in places like Rosedale. Eventually when Whites there did move out they left primarily to the suburbs. I had a friend of mine that lived in Howard Beach not too long ago, but prices to buy in Howard Beach are quite expensive, so he moved with his wife out to Long Island and bought a house there.

That's the other big obstacle... The White areas in Queens have generally been White for years, including the ones you listed, but even those are changing. Middle Village and Glendale for example still has a White presence as in old school Whites (i.e. Italians, Irish, etc.), but you can find more Eastern Europeans there now there compared to years before. Part of the decline is due to slowing immigration from Western Europe.

Kennedy immigration laws killed white immigration from Europe that fed old school areas of city (Irish, Italian, bit of German, etc...) OTOH it promoted Asian (east and whatever) and to an extent eastern European (Russian) immigration, so there you are.

Basically there are several factors at work; low immigration from Europe means less "new" blood for certain old school neighborhoods. Pile on lower birth rates and people fleeing city for suburbs and things are what they are.

Lower income persons from Europe virtually cannot legally immigrate to USA legally, or if so it cost plenty and takes ages. OTOH Mexicans and others just walked across southern border, set up house and no one says boo. They had children (a lot), and their children had children (a lot), so that's that.

Other final bit is it doesn't take much to get some groups of people to move house. Once an area tips or starts leaning that way often what's left of old school people start clearing out as well.

This happened pretty much along most of North Shore of SI and is happening (or has happened) to areas of Brooklyn and Queens. Back in say 1980's or 1980's Main Street area in Flushing was not majority Asian, but it is now.

All of this... Northeast Queens has held on because it is generally more expensive, but you have many Asians that move over from the Flushing area when they have made it and want to live a more upper middle class lifestyle, so we are seeing more of them in Little Neck and Douglaston, but all over NE Queens in general (Bayside, Bay Terrace, Beechhurst, Whitestone, etc.) and they are buying usually with cash.

That said, there are still plenty of Whites in NE Queens a chunk of them Republican like myself, which is why Vicki Paladino was able to win the Council seat, along with Congressman George Santos. Worth noting that some Asians will vote Republican over Democrat being a bit more conservative.
