Clowns at MTA though Euro style subway "turnstiles" with gates would reduce fare evasion. They thought wrong...

https://nypost.com/2023/12/12/metro/...a-subway-gate/

Oh well, several MTA board members and executives got to take company paid trips to Europe and various contractors along with others made some money. So all in all what passes for normal with MTA. These are t he same eejits that are going to be in charge of untold billions raked in by congestion pricing.

That's hilarious. Not even mad at them.
Normally I'm not a fan of stealing but way to use creativity and make the MTA look like fools for wasting so much money.

Basically, they went through the new gate as a conga line, so all 25 people got through with the gate opening once.

Can they be crawled under?

That's the best way to go under turnstiles if you can get low and fit.

Hopping them is too visible and obvious. Going under them is a bit more inconspicuous.

There is a whole bunch of noise coming from people who think that money will be put to good use. They must be paid shills or really F'n stupid, or transplants who have no historical knowledge of the MTA.

HAH. They probably took the video down because it showed it can be done. The shame of it all is they have the same gates in London. In the over 15 times I've been there in all parts of the system at all times of day and night, I've never seen ANYONE hop, skip or duck the gates. I suppose it is a "New York state of mind."

Anyone who has been to Europe or elsewhere where subway systems have these sort of gates know they aren't full proof.

Eejits crawl under, double, triple or more up, find ways to trick sensors...

In France things roll differently.

At least with Paris metro system one needs to retain proof of payment until having departed system. Roving bands of LE move about or are stationed at exit points who will stop and ask anyone to show proof they paid to ride system. If someone cannot show said proof and or otherwise answer to satisfaction of gendarmes it's a fine and possibly being hauled off to police station.

In many cases these gate systems adopted by US transit systems are a joke. Eejits push through, climb under, etc.... This is because officials refuse to do what must be done.

Rudy G. came into town and at once tackled fare evasion by not just issuing tickets and time outs, but every single GD person caught was processed through system.

Choice between saving two bits versus being detained for hours while being processed *and* charged.. many simply decided it wasn't worth bothering and either paid up or walked.

If Red Light, speed, and noise cams can be used above ground.
Make anywhere using the subway who isn't paying non-subsidized fare, wear a registration tag on the system the whole time.

**** poor behavior will be fined and rights will be suspended.
