NYPD officer will no longer want to interact with the public

If you find yourself interacting follow simple rules.

1) If you haven't done anything wrong there is nothing to worry about. Jump to #6.

2) Show respect. Follow instructions. Know your rights on how to respond to questions.

3) If feeling threatened ask for a supervisor.

4) Above all, do not run, do not resist, do not assault.

5) If arrested ,you will have your day in court.

6) Finish communications, thank the system and be on your way.

So simple but difficult to follow "because some have an imbedded hatred for cops" as
dum dums prefer to challenge authority resulting in a night spent in the klinker.

If you respect a cop he will respect you back.

Ask for a supervisor? Lol. I wonder if Airborne ever got asked for his supervisor and what did he do when asked.

Yes.
There can be an advantage if you are on the same team.

Means they are being told not to fight ordinary crime and deal with only violent crimes and focus on writing tickets and ensure the city's fines and ordinances are followed. The city needs money and does not care about low level offenses and that is not their priority.

Crack (along with other drugs) were the driving force behind elevated crime levels during that era.

Crime was also concentrated in very specific areas of the city. I'd argue that crime is now more widespread even if there is technically less of it.

Great advice, but I would disagree with your point #1. A couple of searches on YouTube will make it abundantly clear that cops violating citizens civil rights is becoming a much more common occurrence. Gone are the days when one could be confident that if they had done nothing wrong, they had nothing to worry about.
