sickening? I would use different terms to describe it.
LGA was built in the '30s as a marine airport and has tried to expand into a modern facility to meet today's needs, LGA is constrained by a lack of land for expansion. The only way to make the place work right is to cut back on the amount of flights there. what is currently the case is that the airlines are doing the old squeeze 10 lbs. of crap into a 5 lb. sack routine and the huge delays that are common there will continue unless the PA or FAA forces the airlines to alter their schedules.
The scheduling of so many planes to arrive or depart at the same time like is done now will never work.
If the powers that be enforced some sensibilities onto the airlines LGA would work well.

Unless you're flying internationally or to the other coast. Or can you get non-stops to the West Coast at LGA these days?

This is a problem all over, no more so at LGA than anywhere else, in my experience.

I just did a quick search and it appears that there are no non stops to LA or SF from LGA, You can get to Denver, so I guess you can get west from LGA, just not all the way across the country.

I always have better luck at Laguardia, though it is considered less safe than JFK because its lack of runway space. I fly Delta to FL often and I am never delayed, I fly through security, and it is so much closer of a drive than to JFK from the City.

I am a 10 minute drive from JFK so my choice is obvious.

LGA always seems to have more traffic to me.

I think quelinda has hit upon something. On the occasions when I've flown out of LaGuardia, I've always felt distinctly nervous about the length of those runways. So if I've got a choice in the matter, I prefer JFK.

I feel nervous landing in LaGuardia.. it always seems like the plane is getting TOO close to the houses, but that's because houses are situated almost as soon as the runway begins...

I flew in and out of Laguardia during college a couple years ago and only had 1 bad delay, after flying in and out about 20 times. Not too bad in my opinion.

JFK it takes forever to take off. The lines for take off are ridiculously long. If you have a domestic flight at night, you can be certain that you will spend an hour in line for take off due to the high number of international flights taking off. I flew to Oregon last April at 7pm and waited an hour to take off.

the real data contradicts your experiences, apparently you've been real lucky

Yeah, and I was flying to and from Maine during the winter and still had no problems. I guess I was just lucky.
