I promised a friend of mine I'd take her out to celebrate the end of her semester, and getting accepted into some special internship. I meant more like dinner and a movie, but of course she picked ice skating.

I haven't been ice skating since the senior trip in 8th grade 10 years ago, and that was in Staten.

I know it's a long shot, but is there any place to Ice Skate (preferably in Manhattan or the BX) on a Saturday that won't be overrun with tourists?

There are many ice skating rinks in Manhattan here are the websites:
Chelsea Piers Sky Rink - www.chelseapiers.com
Wollman Ice Skating Rink - www.wollmanskatingrink.com
Rockefeller Center Ice Skating - www.patinagroup.com
Riverside Park - New York State Parks :: Riverbank State Park

I have gone to Riverside Park and is the least crowded of the 3 I've been to: Wollman Central Park, Rockefeller Center and Riverside Park. ENJOY!! :-)

Default skating

Wollman: Central Park: Big place, not too $$ (but not as cheap as it used to be). Pretty romantic

Chelsea Piers: Overlooking water & indoors. More $$. Warmer, fewer ppl.

Rockefeller: I only go off season. Too many ppl, but super-romantic. I used to get discounts to make it super cheap: but I hadn't seen those in a while.

Bryant park: I think this rink is free. Smack-center of Manhattan, small rink.

Watch out though: ice-skating is super romantic!!!

Haha, thanks for all the advice. I've already been down the romantic road with this one, but it's nice to have ammo ready for the next one.
