I may be moving to Throggs Neck, Bronx at the end of the month from Dutchess County. Does anyone have any insight on the move for a single 22 year old female? I am most interested in finding out how the commute is. Everyone has recommended taking the express bus to the UES. I will be working on 64th and 1st, so I would like to know how that may be. Thanks.

Throggs Neck is a very nice area of the Bronx, especiallly the closer you get to the water. The area around St. Frances Chantal parish is especially nice. I don't think you should have any problems in this neck of the woods.

The neighborhood around Westchester Sq is a little bit rough, but I'm guessing you probably aren't looking at places in this area.

I don't know anything about the bus, so someone else will have to help you out with that.

Thanks for the info. This place is down the street from Tosca's..but near that park that is abandoned and kind of scary looking. But it is suppose to turn into a golf course in a few years, so that would be nice....

Hi Violeta - I currently live in Throgs Neck and have lived here for 35 years. I have a young daughter and we are currently looking for homes in Rockland County. That said, Throgs Neck WAS a beautiful community to grow up in - extremely close-knit (sp?) at one point. However, things have changed - with the development of homes being built on any piece of empty land.

I know exactly the area you looking at....I grew up on Miles Avenue (down the block from Tosca's - next to the Golf course). The Golf course...that's a joke - it's been in development for the past 10 years.

That area, especially, has seen many changes over the past few years and is very scary at the moment....you should look at areas on the other side of Tremont avenue...like Vincent avenue area.

Since, you are single you should be okay...people are very friendly. I wouldn't move there and raise a family - Schools are not good. This is the reason for our move. I have many fond memories and many friends and family still in Throgs Neck - I will always be closely connected with this neighborhood.

Good luck in your decision!
