The only part of Jerome I like is south of 167th when it is not underneath the 4 and it's heading to the Macombs Dam Bridge. There are beautiful apartments and Mullaly Park nearby.

Parkchester should definitely be considered. It's getting better every day and more and more people from the City moving up. I have been reading these Bronx threads for the past couple of weeks because I want to buy another condo as an investment property. The more I read and compare, the more I think I will buy another unit in Parkchester. Every one of my friends (or acquaintances I meet and bring up to show the area because they are interested in moving to the area) are ALL very impressed with the cleanliness, friendliness and serenity of the place.) It's safe, lovely, well maintained, has a ton of amenities within walking distance (even a spa, for goodness sakes - Canela Spa | Shop Spa Products | Book Online | Spa Treatments | Party Packages for Weddings, Proms, Mothers Day | Located in New York City), it's family friendly and, most importantly for many right now - still affordable. Tell me where else in the city where you can get a safe, pleasant 1-bedroom 650sf condo (not co-op) near transportation and with great amenities for $115-$130,000??? If you know of anyplace, let me know because I agree with Guywithacause that now is the time to buy realestate and the Bronx (being the most undervalued borough) is a great buy. Investment-wise, I'm in and staying in!
my commute to brooklyn is only 15 minutes off the fdr. But if your coming all the way from pelham or woodlawn its easily an hour and change. In that case i would recommend parkchester
Are the cc charges at Parkchester more than $700 for a one-bedroom? Added to your mortgage, I would hardly call that affordable. I was reading a Parkchester bulletin board and it seems like there were a lot of people who couldn't sell their units nor could they rent them out for prices that would cover their overhead.
actually the part of the picture that looks nice is Bedford Park Blvd because it gives a view of the art deco bldgs, tree lined street and Botanical garden in the background. Jerome ave is cut off. if the scene were reversed Jerome would look very unsightly. it's all tenements, train yards and the tracey towers complex towering over it
Jerome is nice above the #4 by the VC park and cemetery
