yeah but just because the city officials do it, that doesnt make it right. even along the concourse north of the cross bronx expwy, there was poverty and arson, but no vacant lots like that. because there isnt even vacant lots alongthe concourse now, or new things in its place. its the same old buildings that was always there. now look at places like wales avenue, crimmins avenue, jackson ave. those were some really burnt out blocks...people never described the concourse as similar to berlin. but the real south bronx, yes it did look like ww2.

I don't think it's correct at all, but this is what's been going on and it's very hard to change old habits, so I highly doubt that if someone came out and officially stated a new name, that people would start calling it that rather than the South Bronx.

Well, arguably, the people mainly calling it SoBro, are the real estate brokers who are trying to remove the negative contonation that comes along with it, but Downtown Bronx? I've actually never heard that one!

Jun 16, 1977 - In addition to Bushwick and Sunset Park, a neighborhood on the western end of Brooklyn, such West Bronx areas as University Heights, Morris Heights, West Tremont and Fordham have suffered the most severe increases in fires in the last two years, Fire Department officials say. ...

Serious Fires in New York City Have Jumped 40% in Last 3 Years; Seriou... - Free Preview - The New York Times

Seventh...once those neighborhoods that you're talking about were just rubble....there was nothing left to burn. So they went after the remaining neighborhoods and as a result in the late 70's there impact was felt all the way up to Fordham rd.

Southern Blvd from 180th to the Bronx Zoo was burned out.

University avenue from 174th to Burnside was burned out. Includign Harrison, Macombs and Andrews avenue.

Highbridge was vacant lots everywhere.

The area of Bronx Community College was so bad that nobody attended in the late 70's. The sorrounding area was vacant.

It did happen in other places. Not just the places you're talking about.

You mean

No question that it did happen in other neighborhoods.

?

And the Concourse itself was pretty unscathed. You're right

But the blocks by the Bronx river(Southern Blvd, Boston rd), the blocks by the Harlem River (University ave, Andrews ave), and the Blocks by the East River (Cypress ave, Brook ave) were bombed.
