That is funny! And so true. Works like a charm for me also - WHEN I take the subway. All the sentiments expressed on this thread are exactly why I usually prefer to ride the Express bus. To me, it is so worth the extra $. But sometimes I kind of miss the craziness and will go underground just for old times sake. But after a couple of times and I want to pull my hair out. Thank Goodness for those buses. (Now if I could wave a magic wand and make all obnoxious cell phone users/abusers just disappear....But that's another thread. LOL)
Me three. I take the express bus in the morning. It is just so much better to arrive at work rested and relaxed after a little nap on the bus.
I do the subway in evening because the bus just seems to take forever, and the Q train isn't usually sardine-packed like it is in the morning.
Here's tip: On the "Orange Seat" trains with the perpendicular seating arrangement, for optimal "Strategic Seat Acquisition", go to the middle, right in between the two sets of opposite-facing seats. You can easily grab any of the eight seats adjacent to you, and if you're fast enough, and work your way over when you see a person get ready to leave, you can probably reach some of the perpendicular inward-facing seats as well.
I get most annoyed at the doormen or women. I usually push at them "accidentally" like yeah you in the door so you'll end up getting pushed. Unfortunately I can only do that if the person is likely to put up with it in my assessment or I'm strong enough to get away with it (gotta recognize ya cant get away with pushing everyone).
On the flip side, I dont push my way onto any overly crowded train anymore like I did growing up and I can't stand that practice now. Its like open your eyes dude..there's no room so dont think you have to force us to squeeze together cuz you cant wait another few minutes for the next train. Wait as I do, one will come!

I read the list to my dad, who is a life long NYer. He said he always hated it when people stepped into the train before the people exited off. That annoys me too.
It always kills me when I see a train packed to capacity, and just as the doors are about to close, a young lady comes along with her baby carriage, and pushes her way onto the train with her baby in the carriage. I just look at them and wonder, are ya F'ing stupid..

I can't stand those young mothers with strollers that delay the trains. Plus, their babies are crying on the whole ride (especially on the 4 train).
