i was just switched to a much lower cost auto insurance plan within the same company for being a safe driver. However it generated a different policy ID # with different insurance cards

curious, if stopped by a cop and i had forgotten to put the new card in the glove box and kept the old card could i get ticketed? can the cop find out the ID #'s or just whether the insurance is active or not?

i already added the new card to the glove box but im just curious what would happen if someone didn't add the new cards to the glove box to show the cop if stopped

my question pertains to the overlap period i suppose. my former cards began on 8/10/13 expire on 2/10/14 but the new ones(temporary) are effective from 12/10/13 and expire 2/8/14.

If the date on the old card indicates it is not expired why would the cop would look any further unless you have just severed someone's leg?

Exactly. All that an officer wants to see on an MV stop, is an insurance card with a future expiration date. If there is a problem with coverage, it would only & eventually be discovered following a reportable accident, when an incorrectled/cancel policy # on the police report would be discovered.
If someone has a facially valid Ins. ID card, but has not paid the premiums, the policy is cancelled and DMV suspends the vehicle registration, & sometimes the DL of the vehicle owner. Then, the driver has problems.
