The view...that is to say, THE view, isn't from the West Side Highway. It's from mid-span on the Brooklyn Bridge. That puts practically every skyline view from every other city in the United States to shame. And you don't have to drive there. You can walk there, then sit on a bench and take it in for as long as you want. (Yeah, yeah, you can get a pretty good cityscape from the Williamsburg too. But there aren't any benches on that bridge. And you don't see the whole harbor as well).
DENSITY, I still say is what's cool about NYC's skyline. Ya it's cool looking too for how long it is. Most of the time, whenever they make a movie in a city, they almost always show the SKYLINES in the best possible light. Meaning the best features of it. Here when a movie is made, they like to show NYC shot from helicopters looking down into all the density (for the dramatic). Chicago alot of times, they film from a helicopter swooping in across lake Michigan and into Chicago's downtown. Pay attention when you see movies filmed in either cities and you'll see what I mean. They just did it the movie 'Traitor' when they showed Chicago. I picked up on it cause I've seen hollywood do that so many times when showing Chicago. I can't tell you how many movies I seen when they showed NYC from way up high. Almost always filmed that way.
Some of them do, but they're usually not in use. I took Megabus to Boston for a total of $19 round trip.. amazingly cheap! Imagine, what it's like to go to Philly..
The ferry has the best views. You can even see midtown behind
The view from Jersey is overrated. Bad side view of the Empire State building. For some reason Manhattan looks like a sloppy mess of buildings from that angle. The best views are the ones where the bigger buildings sit on top of the water, not 3-5 blocks in
So who is considered the sixth borough, Philly or any of northjersey's cities?
well, jersey city and hoboken, newark maybe, then miami, philly, hartford, bridgeport, new haven, boston etc..are the cities that give me a vibe of a borough. any city that has puerto rican day parade fits the bill

so there's no official announcement ,or a certain fact on what city is deserving of that titile? Its all just opinions and spectulations?
I would think Philly would be ,sense it's the largest city on the eastcoast( behind only NY). And because enough New Yorkies come from up there to down here.
