dana, i like fine fair on grand concourse, ctown on 204th and grand concourse, also pioneer on webster is pretty big. It might be far from you, but they have free delivery. I don't buy my veggies and fruits there. I get them from an organic CSA spot in Norwood. Let me know if you're interested, it saves money and the quality is amazing.
Sorry for missing your reply. I checked out Fine Fare on GC and it's nice. It's better than the one on Broadway (Inwood) with that horrible stench...LOL! Is the CSA spot a food co-op? Year round? I like to know more about it...thanks!
When living in upper Manhattan, I was spoiled by "mega" supermarkets such as Stop & Shop (W. 234th & Broadway) and Pathmark (W. 207th Street & 10th Av). Now that I live in Norwood, I'm closest to Foodtown and C-Town...they're "OK" but don't seem to have much variety (and less spacious, I'm a bit claustrophobic).
Any recommendations for supermarkets?
Thanks...
FYI. Stop & Shop is closed for 2 months for major repairs. It needs it! I believe it used to be Finast or Waldbaums years ago.
And anyone near the Parkchester area can check out Chang Li - a great Asian market selling not only fresh fish and fruits and veggies (some so exotic, I wouldn't even know what to do with) , but every Asian ingredient known to man. (They also have "regular food as well). I especially like their selection of tofu and the different kinds of mushrooms that are hard to find elsewhere. It is hard to explain where it is - (off of Westchester Avenue) but they have a website. Tons of people drive from all over to do their weekly shopping. Super fast check out AND I always leave there amazed at how much I get for so little $. (They also have a second location in Eastchester (??) if Parkchester is not convenient.

Hi danabbw67, I'm glad you liked fine fare.
I'm always there stocking up on Nutellas jars
The winter registration is actually already up on the website. It's a great little organization. It's a steep membership price but it's worth it. All the foods are organic so it's a lot cheaper than whole foods when you measure the quality and quantity. I need to eat organic at home because I used to have a health problem and need to maintain healthy.
