You gotta be mindful that Queens precincts covers more than one neighborhood, so it may not be accurate to say that Hollis is responsible for the high crime rate. It's part of 103rd pct which also includes Jamaica and parts of South Jamaica.

^^^ This ...

For the record the 103rd has registered a large number of homicides this year. That being said, the vast majority of these murders occured in the Jamaica/Springfield Gardens area near South Jamaica... For the most part, the other neighborhoods included within this precinct are fairly safe and are good working/middle class areas...

My dear friend and neighbor (Jersey City) had a fun loving aunt who visited often who had lived in Hollis Park for a million years. Both of them gushed about what a terrific neighborhood Hollis was.
But that was in the 1980's.
Both are dead now.

I've never been there.

An aunt of a dear friend had lived in Hollis from the 1950's. By the 1980's she still liked the place but said that it has been deteriorating.
She's probably long dead now.

I've lived in Hollis queens for since 1995 and I live on a well known intersection Francis Lewis and Jamaica and I love it here....honestly the crime rate in my neighborhood is not high and if there is crime its only like a break in or disturbance.. Hollis has had a bad reputation but its not a bad place to live its very convenient to all the boroughs and a lot of varieties
