I am new to this post. I'll be visiting NYC for 10 days in late-Sept thru early-Oct. And, while I've been diligently researching information on my own via travel books and website, I will have a few questions to ask "the natives". (Although if you're like the Portlandians, most of them really are not natives... Ha!!!)
Anyway. . . .
Is there anything to see in the Jamaica area? I know of the Bay. And I know that isn't occupied by Jamaicans. But I hope to visit the Astoria area, so I'm wondering about the other.
Sounds like a worthwhile area to check out if I have a lot of dead time to kill. And I highly doubt that I will. I'll be in NY for 10 days, and although that is longer than most tourists do, it still won't allow me to see 'n' do everything.
How safe do you consider the Jamaica area to be like for tourists?????
Would it be recommendably to find a hotel in the area to stay for about 10 days if i'm visiting NYC and am trying to keep it in a budget???

It depends on which part of Jamaica, but most would probably recommend against it.
