What do you mean by 'NYC area?' We have a pool at our house in Bedford, and it's in the NYC area, but is that what you're thinking?

New York is very hot and humid in the summer--lots of people who don't want to be bothered with going to the beach have pools, but the ocean isn't too cold to swim in, especially during July, August and early September.

The beaches here are disgusting and everyone probably pisses in the YMCA pools. So I think it's worth it if you have more than enough money to maintain it.

What beaches have you been to since you moved here mi amour? Aside from Orchard Beach, which I know you've been to and its known to be the nastiest water (bacteria count-wise) around because its on the enclosed Long Island Sound (you go there for the live salsa music on Sundays, not the gross water). I'm just curious because it seems like you're misrepresenting many of our beautiful clean beaches.

Yes that's the one I went to ! People said that the other beaches are worse than Orchard Beach. I'm not trying to be pretentious but it was a little grody for me.

Long Island beaches are nice. I like Long Beach a lot.

I have heard that Jones beach is nice. Someone also mentioned Coney Island..but then another person said Coney Island is "ghetto & gross". I DID NOT SAY THIS. THEY DID. I haven't been to either.

Jones is ok. A lot of people who live in the city go there. I prefer the other beaches along Ocean Parkway in LI, but Jones is still cool. I like this one spot down past Jones where you can drive your trucks on the beach and BBQ.

The best beach in New York City is Rockaway Beach (it fronts on the open ocean, unlike Coney Island and Brighton Beach, which are actually on Gravesend Bay). And the further west you go (the numbers of the "Beach" streets increasing) the better it gets. Many people assume that the beach around Belle Harbor and Neposit is private--but it isn't. Uh oh...I may have just given away the secret!
