This is purely a matter of opinion. When you think of the best colleges in nyc, which ten are the first ones to pop to your head? This does not have to be politically correct. We are not concentrating on a major or anything such as that. I'm just curious, when one thinks of nyc, what colleges do they think of? If 10 don't pop to your head just list as many as you can in order of priority. I'll list what my conceptions were after a few people post.
Obviously, Columbia and NYU stand alone as the "best" ones, followed probably by Fordham. After that... for general studies, St. John's? Wagner? For specialized areas there are better ones, i.e. Pratt. Yeshiva and Pace probably come in somewhere under that, though I don't really know what the deal is with those places.
I also don't know all that much about the CUNYs but have a positive impression of Hunter and City College for some reason. I feel like I'm forgetting about some big schools in the area. Are we talking strictly schools in the five boroughs? Throw in Sarah Lawrence if we're gonna expand it a couple of miles into Westchester.
NYU, Columbia, Fordham, FIT, St. John's (went here for graduate school), Wagner
I think Hunter is good. Queens College is decent (went there for one class). Heard good things about Marymount. I think Pace is decent. Heard Baruch is good for business. Took some workshops at City College in Harlem and it seemed like a nice campus.
I always wanted to go to NYU...too damn expensive though!!
Excellent list you guys. I keep seeing that St. John's is coming up frequently. I, as a San Diegan, haven't heard of it..but it is obviously prestigious. Can someone tell me more about it?
St. John's is a good Catholic school in north Jamaica. It's not held in as high regard as Fordham, but is more convenient for people in BK, Qns and LI so I know a lot more people that go there. About half the people I know that go there are in the five-year pharmacy program, so I imagine that it's good. It's also famous for a currently-horrible basketball team in the Big East, haha.
While perhaps lost on many, Cooper Union is probably considered to be the third best engineering school in the country (after MIT and Cal Tech), and, frankly, is probably the most prestiguous (and most difficult to get in) in NYC. More importantly, ITS FREE!!

St John's isn't the best, but it's a good school- solid education. It's not like NYU, Columbia, and I think Fordham is probably better, but it's a good school. It's catholic, private and in Queens. I went there for grad school and it's def. a good school. I wouldn't go there though if I didn't have my grad school paid for though- too expensive.
Columbia
Barnard
NYU
Cooper Union
Juilliard
