Maybe because they deal with business guys in the day and tourists a lot at night, the ones in/near Times Square might be pretty good on the service front. Two I used to go to in the area always hit me as pretty good on the service, as well as the food front (as long as you stuck to basic stuff like steaks and nothing fancy) They were Ben Benson's on 52nd near 6th and Del Frisco's on 49th and 6th. There is also a Ruth's Chris somewhere in MIdtwon, though I've never been to it, and I imagine their service is pretty straightforward and ungimmicky.
I never get bad service @ Peter Luger or City Crab (which sells incredible steaks) - I hear good things about Empire Steak house - never been , but the Yelp reviews seem to say service is impeccable!
Do the always go hand in hand in NYC? Are there any classic steakhouses in NYC I go to for dinner with a date and get friendly service?
Thank you
Are you referring to a specific restaurant? I don't have bad service in steakhouses. On the contrary, steakhouses have a specialized staff that are usually quite efficient and professional.
Steakhouses are so expensive that they know they have to have great service.

I was looking over some online reviews for The Palm, The Old Homestead, Sparks, and a bunch of other longstanding NYC steak spots..although the reviews are generally favorable when it comes to the food, it's pretty common to read too about dinners that were ruined or at least soured by cranky service---even at steakhouses where the price per person hovers around $100.
If it's just me and the boys from work going out for dinner, a bit of gruff service isn't a problem, but I plan on going out for somewhat of a special occasion (definitely want to do steak) and I want everything to be good all around, food, service, etc...
Had dinner at Wolfgangs steakhouse and my GF said the same thing. I said thats what good steakhouses in NYC do. They dont do all that fake caring about you.
We had a jokester though lol
