FDNY and NYPD don't run up and dump their routes on shift for for an extra $5. People are doing this job with less and showing that it works.
Rest in Peace DSNY.

We are at about 6,500 S/W's.... Give or take a few hundred. Soon to be less.

yeh around 6500 not 8000 maybe 7500 including 444....I respect FDNY and NYPD but you can not tell me that our 250 guys getting laid off is going to make the difference (at 30k a pop) we have the smallest budget in the world and a very small workforce compared to the MTA FDNY NYPD nd there budgets i think are a 100 times bigger then ours...so why should we have to show 4% like the other uniformed agencies when they have so much more simple math $1000 is the MTA NYPD FDNY budget they slash 4% thats 400 now they slash the big DSNY at 4% with a budget of a $100=$40...instead of blaming the unions blame all the crooked politicians out there the ones that threw this city into the place it is now they give out jobs spend money dont get jobs finished etc etc... this country is a joke...

is laying off 300, 400, or even 500 s/w at next to bottom pay really going to save this enormous amount of money that they (i assume that would be assorted politicians and top DSNY peeps) want to save. what about people with their time on with "chronic" sickness, lodi for 8 months every year, or an awol a month. toss one of them, and that is 3 possible layoffees (is that right?) that keeps a job that they appreciate more.

as per Bloomberg, DSNY was ordered to cut their budget by 2% for this fiscal year, and also cut it by 4% for the next fiscal year...so if they layoff x amount of guys, even if it seems like a relatively small amount, I'm guessing it all comes down to getting to that 2% or 4% number...and I've heard somewhere that even though junior guys are at the bottom of the pay scale, it's not about the salary, not having to cover our health insurance is where the city would really save money

"Soon to be less"- I hate to put you on the spot, but is this referring to imminent layoffs?

like Kingcals, my biggest concern would the Tier 5 issue...if they institute Tier 5 sometime after potential layoffs, could we be forced to lose our Tier 4 status and come back in Tier 5? I guess no one will know until it (possibly) happens

Sanit has recently promoted a few 1 star chiefs, 2 star chiefs, 3 star chiefs... but with less s/w around, what nonsense title are they given? "Chief of Shovel Inspection" sweet gig!
