i heard it happened to the guys in the 70's because they were layed off for a long time...so they actually took out all there money from there pension to pay bills (mortgage, eat, survive).. this is what someone on the job for 30 years told me if its true or not i dont know...

If you are laid off they can bring you back into tier5. The reason is, when you are laid off and brought back technically you are being rehired and it is just a courtesy to let you keep your seniority and district location. I don't know this from experience but in my 5 years on the job this is what i have heard from many others.

guys if you read the proposed bill it says repeatedly that only those who FIRST join the pension systems AFTER July 2010 will be affected...

I think everybody on the job is safe from that..

yeh i think so 2 but if we get laid off do not touch ur pension moneyy....we signed alot of paper work for tier 4 so thats like a contract.. now if you were to get fired from this job and take the test again im sure you would go under tier 5 but if your getting laid off for non performance issues im pretty sure were safe wether we are on probation or not...

Upon further review this bill apparently only pertains to state uniform (fire, police) workers... It will provide a blueprint, however, for the city. Here's more.... http://blog.timesunion.com/faso/tier...on-reform/169/

I want to know, if we truly do not have a choice, what will 831 negotiate in our benefit for this "concession"...

I'm assuming that if we don't have a choice (and I don't think we will) then the union cant negotiate anything. Its take it and that's that. But if for some reason it is negotiable then I think the union would opt for keeping our health benefits the same, no lay offs and hopefully get something as well like a nice raise.
