It depends on what you are willing to pay for a home and we could narrow it down. There are many wonderful towns and villages to live on Long Island.
I moved a couple of years ago, but would move back in a heartbeat!
Living in the Stamford, CT and White Plains, NY are puts you in the center of Rockland, Orange, Long Island and Southern CT. Both areas are very, very expensive but if you can afford it, it might be the most ideal.
I suggest you either ask that this thread be moved or repost in the "New York" forum.
With your specifications, the City itself may not be the right choice.
