i don't know if it has taken place yet, but i heard that lawmakers were trying to put in effect a law that makes it a felony to commit a violent act against an elderly person, which i am for if it passes.

Great point. It funny that many peoples first reaction is to make some law that punishes elderly attack punks more than regular punks. More government, more jails, more taxes and more parasite. The government will never replace family and community. It all comes down to community and it is the community's job to hunt these people down and gives them the death/beating that they deserve. Social outcasting/possible beatdown is a better deterrent than jail time.

All true--but passing a new law is a better avoidance of responsibility!

Sad to say that crime against the elderly was even more common back in the 70s when I left NYC. Yes, there was a day when such abuses drew a swift response from neighbors and the police alike, but those options are not considered "correct" in our more enlightened state we are in now. Sad, very sad indeed.
