West Farms is the neighborhood east of E. Tremont. Roughly from Bronx Park to the Cross Bronx north to south and from Bronx River to Southern BLVD east to west.

The immediate area around the zoo is relatively quiet these days. It looks rough and I remember there was a time where it was one of the worst in the city. I mean I wouldn't be there around night, it tends to get a little too solitary for my tastes.

As for the name, lol. Personally I think there are too many different neighborhoods in the Bronx. A lot of them look like each other, especially on the western side. Maybe at one point they had more pronounced differences, but now not so much.

I include the area around the zoo and the Bot gardens as part of Fordham/Bedford Park but I'm still learning about the BX.

This is very true. Im for canning neighborhood names, and just go by address. Although the Bronx, is famous for this. It was easier when everybody called everything south of Fordham, south Bronx.

Morris/Uni Heights, Tremont, Highbridge, Fordham and North Fordham are mirror images.

Maybe there was an auto body shop that specializes in fixing broken glass? Something like this would show up in the bronx times, so i'm guessing it wasn't a criminal act. The area boarders Van Nest/Pelham Parkway. I think Bronxdale starts north of pelham parkway, but every map says something different.

No my friend, I was there. It was real. Maybe you took offense to what I said or viewed it as a personal attack if you or someone you know lives there. It wasn't meant to be a blanket condemnation of the boro or the neighborhood. This is exactly what I saw, OK?

I don't remember the exact street name. As I said, I took the No. 2 subway and got off at the Bronx Park exit, not long after the West Farms subway stop. And believe me, we traveled on foot for a long time and were not lost. On one of the streets were a row of old tenement buildings, and parked against the curb were a row of cars, jeeps and minivans, and many of them had smashed windows. I wish I were exaggerating.

Default You got off the 2 at WHITE PLAINS RD and Bx Pk East...

so you either walked up Bx Pk east to the Boston Rd/Bx River pkwy gate OR

you walked south into unionport rd and ended up around 180th street, entering the zoo somewhere around 180th/182 street

but I think you probably did the first one

That is always the aggravating thing about some of the maps out there, everyone has an opinion it seems, and they are loosely based in fact. No wonder people get lost when they are looking for an area as opposed to a street address. LOL

I don't doubt your report for a second, since I have seen this even in very good neighborhoods in the city, though it's usually pockets of cars that have had this happen, 3 or 4, or some have their mirrors broken by vandals. It sounds like there was a vandalism spree, unless they smashed out the windows to get Navi systems and the like. It happens, though in some areas a little more than others.
