There were some people who tried to sue to have it declared a landmark, but the landmark's commission said that the renovation in '74 and '75 compromised the original architectural integrity (or something like that) too much for it to be a landmark site.
Unless a stadium sees enough continuing use to justify its upkeep and land use, it gets torn down. Electricity and plumbing must be maintained, the place must be kept clean, etc. Kind of doubtful when you have a brand new version right next door.
Some tried to save Memorial Stadium in Baltimore or at least the massive plaque facade. No dice as you are simply talking about too much land that can be used for other things. Look at Ebbets Field and the Polo Grounds- public housing now.
It would be nice if the field itself survived in a park. Other than that and assuming Big Stein is around, there is no way he is going to leave YS sitting there staring at him in the face. He hated it.
I don't know about The Stadium, but at Shea, they're going to spray paint the outlines of where the bases are. So, when Shea becomes a parking lot ( I hate typing that) people can at least know where the bases are. And on top of that, when they have wheelchair games, they can actually use the actual outlines of the old bases from Shea. Kinda neat when you think about it.

That is pretty cool. I'll be sad to see them take down Yankee Stadium.

That's very cool, especially for something like that.
