anyways, I want her to move in with me but shes scared of manhattan...she thinks its too dirty and stinky, and god forbid she ever has to take the subway

im also scared of how people will treat her here seeing as her speech pattern and mannerisms are very cali-ish..
The City isn't for everyone V. but I came here from So Cal when I was young and loved it. Never had any problems with anyone. As long as she is genuine, has respect for those around her and doesn't have an attitude - she should do just fine.

The decision of whether you should move to Cali or she should move to NYC would depend on trying to quantify how much she detests here vs how much you dislike leaving here for Cali. That's a pretty tough call and only you two can work that out.
Go to a store and buy some "Friends" TV DVD collection or "Sex In The City" Use the TV to brainwash her that New York is a safe friendly utopia. Many people are tremendously swayed by TV, it may work on your girlfriend.

OK, I've lived SoCal for most of my life and I'm surprised anyone who lives in that filthy cesspool Los Angeles would be scared to live ANYWHERE.
That place looks like Tijuana and that toxic air is suffocating.
It depends upon from where she will be relocating in Los Angeles, and where she would be living in NYC. I have known several people from California who have assimilated into NYC without any problem, some from SD, OC, LA, and SF areas. My ex-fiancee loved NYC when she lived in TriBeCa, and she's a SoCal native. One of the things she loved was the verticality of the city since it was comparable to vistas from the hills in SoCal, but instead of looking at the lights from afar she was in the middle of them.
I would not be concerned about her accent and/or mannerisms, since I doubt she'd stand out as much as some of the tourists do, especially over time, unless she's from The Valley. LOL...seriously, then you might want to give her some elocution lessons as a present for relocating to NYC so she would not stand out as much. But, if she will be miserable in NYC, that might not be a good reason to ask her to relocate, since it could lead to dissatisfaction over time. The other thing to consider is which career is more transportable to NYC or LA.
I was in a long-term relationship with a girl who moved here from LA right before we met. And it seemed like every minor negative thing she experienced here had to be contrasted to "it's not like that in California."
Actually, I think the 1st obstacle would be the climate. If she can handle the more extreme weather in NY, then the rest of your concerns could soften with time. If she's the bikini-clad beachcomber type then you have a problem.
I just spent 10 days in NY for the 1st time, and I loved the people. They aren't your sugar-coating-friendly types, but they're very responsive and charming.
Also, I didn't find N.Y. any "dirtier" than L.A.
I don't know about the "Sex In the City" tapes that someone else suggested. I do not like the show, myself, so it had no bearing on my decision to visit the city.
