Do you believe this crime map is at least somewhat accurate? If not, what would your opinion be for areas you are familiar with?
Less crime than shown?
More crime than shown?
Etc……………………
It would be really interesting to hear first hand from people what you think about how your neighborhood is portrayed on this map, and which area that might be.
Considering that NYC has over eight million people, and assuming that this map is correct, crime in NYC seems very low. I realize many crimes are unreported that’s why your opinions are important.
In other areas people don't always call the police and the police don't always show up. So there are probably just more reported robberies in Manhattan.
Well the first thing I clicked on was dead wrong, so who knows about the reliability of the rest of the map. The recent killing of that 14 year old girl in Cambria Heights is listed 119-41 34th Ave... and is marked in the middle of Bayside in the 200s streets... anyway there is no 34th Ave (nor 119th st) in Cambria Heights, and 34th Ave and 119th street would theoretically intersect in the middle of shea stadium. The source was our local cbs station, who listed the same address, but I'm never that surprised when the mass media botches Queens addresses... probably was 234th st and 119th ave.

A shooting right down the block from the school I teach at, lovely. So my kids really do tell the truth when they tell me they see people getting shot sometimes.
Thanks for all the feedback. I’d like to find that map SuperMario posted. This one obviously isn’t any where near correct.
I dont remember what thread it was, maybe he will post on here and tell you.
