What did the hotel say about parking?

In general you can park on the street in Long Island City for free and there don't tend to be too many restrictions with street cleaning - actually at least some streets there are no restrictions at all.

In terms of safety, I also don't know that particular street but I park on my street in an urban-ish area of Queens and I have had two incidents of vandalism in 3 years (the first very minor - a 2 inch square graffiti written with a marker) and the next one a purposefully bashed in side mirror.

I have also seen broken car glass scattered on some streets leading me to believe some cars are broken into for their GPS or stereos or enticing things people have left out on the seat.

So I guess you weigh your options. It is certainly possible to have a break in or a vandalism incident. Do they happen every night? No. But they happen.

The car is a rental car
The area seems to be quiet at night

i checked the address out on street views.
parking looks like it should be ok around there, but just to be safe, i would only park on 41st avenue or 29th street, because 29th street is where the hotel is, and 41st avenue by the school looks like it would be a well-lit area at night.

If you are asking what "well lit" means - it just means well-lighted, or an area that has light from street lamps and is not dark and desolate.

If you are asking how you can see the same photos of the area that Seventhfloor mentions, just go to google maps Google Maps
type in the address this way in the box
40-03 29th St, Queens NY
click
and when you see the map, there is a tab that says "street view"
click on that and you will see what the area looks like.

He meant that there are street lights in the area, such that the street is not going to be as dark as a side street. Not all streets are brightly lit, but around schools, busy intersections, etc., there are more lights than in other areas.

It looks like a street with an interesting mix of things on it - a hotel, a school, a beautiful church, what looks like a rectory, some private homes, an envelope printing company...
and you are not far from the subway so you'll be able to get around easily.
