Last month passing by 1st Ave we saw Elvie's Turo-turo was closed! After 16+ years in business! Anyone know what happened? Did they move?

Ihawan and Krystal's in Woodside were really good when I ate there a few years ago, and I heard from friends who ate there recently that they're still good.

Is Bayan Cafe still open?

And does anyone know if there's a Filipino restaurant in the Bronx?

I ended up checking out some place on roosevelt, it was ok but I can make it just as good since filipino food isnt hard to make.

Here's the sad story on Elvie's closing

she [Elvie] moved back to the Philippines to retire and bequeathed the business to her daughter. To which she immediately ran into the ground in a span of 6 months.

Bumping this up for 2013. I've tried yelp, but was wondering if anyone's got some personal favorites.

OyCrumbler,

My favorite is Maharlika on 1st Ave. Here is the website:

Maharlika

I recommend their shrimp in coconut milk.

The former Cendrillion restaurant in SoHo has reopened as Purple Yam in Brooklyn. Here is the website:

Purple Yam Restaurant | Ditmas Park, Brooklyn | Pan Asian Filipino Food in New York City (NYC)

I have eaten in Cendrillion and found the food to be decent so I assume PY is of the same caliber.

Ihawan is in LIC - its the first stop on the 7 coming out of Grand Central so doesn't take long.

Was in Park Slope today and hand brunch in Talde:

TALDE | Park Slope, Brooklyn

Worth the trip but be careful if you're bringing kids as several dishes have peanuts or are spicy (you can ask the server to modify). They also serve all kinds of San Miguel Beer including Red Horse.
